These pictures were made using a nineteenth-century photographic process called cyanotype, and were inspired by the botanical impressions created by Anna Atkins--an English botanical artist and photographer. The cyanotype process entails painting a piece of paper with a light sensitive liquid chemical coating, placing objects on top of the paper, and exposing it to sunlight. After a period of time, the paper is rinsed in water and a blue impression remains.
